Top Destinations for Solo Travel in 2022

Travel is our passion and for the past couple of years, our passion has had to take a back seat. However, the want and desire to travel has not left us. In fact, the search for solo female travel has increased by 62% over the past few years. It’s amazing to know that so many of you bad-ass women are becoming more and more empowered to explore the world, solo. To help you on your journey, here are my top destinations for solo travel in 2022.

Greece

I could never mention solo travel without recommending Greece. Some of you reading this know that Greece was my very first solo destination. For any history lover like me – it is a dream. Many of those who travel to Greece make it a priority to visit the islands and yes, you should not miss exploring Mykonos, Santorini, Crete, etc. However, do not sleep on the mainland. I am not only speaking about Athens but, venturing to Mycenae, Delphi, and Olympia should be on your list if you love history and learning of a countries past. Nafplio is another hidden gem in the Greek mainland. I like to think of it as the Hamptons of Athens. It’s a coastal town located in the Peloponnese with a backdrop of a beautiful castle. The square is full of tavernas & its the best place to people watch and enjoy the Nafplio culture.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a travelers paradise. From the lush rainforests to its stunning beaches. There is something for everyone. One thing I love about solo travel is that it almost forces you to dive into the culture more. When you are with someone, you are more likely to have that barrier and stick to what you know. Something pretty amazing about Costa Rica is they have specific language immersion vacations to help you not only learn more about the Costa Rican culture but, also the Spanish Language. Intercultura is a language school that offers a variety of Spanish programs for all ages and skill levels (both group and private lessons), which take place in either Heredia City or the school’s beachfront campus in Guanacaste.

Thailand

If you want a mix of both bustling cities and relaxing beaches, Thailand is a wonderful choice for your 2022 solo trip. Start your journey in Bangkok, a fast-paced, electric city with plenty of markets, street vendors, and an eccentric style that you can only find in South East Asia. Then make your way to Phuket for a relaxing beach escape and if you’re in search of culture, check out Chaing Mai.

Sedona, AZ

Now I may be a bit biased since I moved out to Arizona 4 months ago but, if you are into wellness and connecting with your inner self – Sedona is the perfect place to venture too. Besides, it has some of the most breathtaking views. Sedona is packed with spas and other wellness resorts so, you will be sure to have your pick.

Paris

Taking a solo trip to Paris is a great way to dip your feet into the world of solo travel. It’s relatively safe, English is widely spoken and it has something for everyone. Now, why do I say it is “relatively safe”? Because tourists are targets for many petty crimes like pick-pocketing or the infamous bracelet scam. However, with the proper research and if you follow our Solo Travel Woman tips, you will have a magical time in Paris.

Iceland

Not only is it consistently on the list of safest countries but, how can you say no to the stunning landscape that Iceland offers. If you have the time, I suggest visiting Reykjavik, renting a car, and then traveling along Ring Road. You will be able to see most of this magical country by doing so.

Charleston, SC

Charleston will always be on my list of solo travel destinations in the US. I just love the charm, colorful buildings, and history that this beautiful city offers. If you are an art lover, you will be happy to know that Charleston is actually home to 56 art galleries.

Galapagos

If you are into adventure travel, then I am sure the Galapagos archipelago is high up on your bucket list. The Galapagos is one of the few places that are still off the beaten path and perfect for those looking to have the intrepid spirit. It’s also extremely safe and quite easy to get around. May tours for solo travelers are available for those who have the passion to explore but, also want to meet new people.

Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA

This small beach city off Highway 1 on the coast of California, will take your breath away. It is known for its museums and fairytale cottages. Its laid-back vibes are perfect for those looking for some rest and relaxation. However, those who like the “finer things” in life will have plenty to choose from too. Carmel-by-the-Sea is flooded with fine wine and dining, luxury hotels, and sweeping golf courses.

There are so many magical places in the world to visit, way more than those listed above. One way to help you decide on where your journey will take you is to really understand why you are solo traveling in the first place. Is it to immerse yourself in new cultures? Do you just need some rest and relaxation? Knowing this will truly help you choose your top destinations for solo travel in 2022.
